Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Living Glass Keepsakes handmade?

Yes, your piece will be handmade from scratch and completely unique. Since your keepsake is made just for you, the color and design of your piece may slightly vary from our pictures due to lighting of the images on our website and the manner in which the glass, color, and ashes interact when combined in your glass keepsake.

How much ash is needed for each Living Glass Keepsake?

We request 1 tablespoon of ashes per keepsake ordered.

If you order the Touchstones, then 1 tablespoon of ashes aresufficient for all 5 Touchstones that come in a single order.

We provide you with a simple and easy-to-use Ash CollectionKit with clear instructions to make it easy. Of course, feel free to give us a call at (8000 495-7022, ext. 0 or send us an email if you have any questions.

Who actually makes the Living Glass Keepsakes?

All Living Glass Ash Infused Keepsakes are handmade by our talented artist Taryn Jayne at her glass studio in San Diego. All of our stands are made in our woodshop studio in Denver.

What kinds of ashes can be used – will remains from a regular cremation and aquamation work?

Yes, no problem – ashes (cremated remains) from a regular cremation or aquamation process are perfectly fine and can be used.

What if I am uncomfortable handling my loved ones ashes?

While many families handle the remains on their own, it can understandably be difficult for some people. If you don’t feel comfortable handling the remains yourself, we recommend asking a family member, a friend, or the funeral home you worked with for help (they are usually very sensitive and understanding).

Can this be done with pet ashes?

Yes, no problem – we have created many Living Glass pieces with pet ashes infused.

What do the ashes look like in the Living Glass Keepsake?

The ashes appear as a white/grey ribbon in the piece.

What are your glass studio procedures to ensure the ashes I send are in the Living Glass Keepsake I receive?

We have a highly controlled and safe process and workflow. Once we receive your collection kit, we immediately tag it with a unique ID that is attached to your Living Glass Keepsake through the entire building and shipping process.

Can I combine ashes from multiple individuals into a single Living Glass Keepsake?

Yes, no problem – this is common and we do this for many families.

What happens to any ash I send that does not get used in the Living Glass Keepsake?

If you send us the amount of ash requested, we’ll use most (if not all) of it in your piece. However, there maybe a little bit left over. Any excess ash is taken to a peaceful location and scattered in a dignified way in the Pacific Ocean in Southern California.

If you prefer that we send you back the excess remains, just let us know. However, we need to charge $25 to cover the cost of sending the ashes using the special USPS Priority Mail Express, which is required per USPS rules and regulations.
